Waregem is a town in the province of West Flanders in the Flanders region in Belgium and is part of the Kortrijk district . It has 38,266 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) and an area of 44.34 km².

In the municipal council elections in 2006, the Christian Democratic Party in Vlaams (CD&V) achieved an absolute majority with 60% of the vote. Kurt Vanryckeghem, son of the former mayor Jozef Vanryckeghem, was elected mayor.
Sports
Waregem is the home of the first division soccer club SV Zulte-Waregem . It is also the destination of the one-day race across Flanders . The Briek Schotte GP bike race is also held annually in the Desselgem district . Waregem also owns a famous horse racing track called Hippodroom Waregem ("Gaverbeek Hippodroom"), where the legendary Koerse Waregem obstacle race takes place in front of over 40,000 spectators every year.
