Lo-Reninge is a small Belgian town in the Flanders region with 3291 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019). It is the second smallest city in Belgium after Mesen . Lo-Reninge was created in 1977 from the merger of the previously independent town of Lo with the municipalities (and today's districts) Reninge , Pollinkhove and Noordschote .
location
The city is located in the very west of Belgium about 10 km east of the border with France and 18 km south of the Belgian coast on the English Channel . Lo-Reninge is still dominated by agriculture and has a very low population density for Belgium. The river (French) runs south of the city: Yser ( Dutch ): IJzer ; the navigable canal Lovaart , which branches off from it and leads up to Nieuwpoort on the coast, runs in the immediate vicinity of the city.
Diksmuide is 10 km northeast, Nieuwpoort 16 km north, Ypres 17 km southeast, Bruges 40 km northeast and Brussels approx. 113 km east.
Infrastructure
The next motorway exits are at Veurne in the north on the A18 and at Ypres in the south on the A19 .
The nearest regional train stations are in Diksmuide, Veurne and Ypres . National express trains also stop in Ostend and Bruges.
At Ostend and the French There are regional airports in the big city of Lille and there is an international airport near the capital Brussels.
Attractions
The town hall with belfry has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage “Belfries in Belgium and France” since 1999 .
