Zedelgem is a Belgian municipality in the Flanders region with 22,819 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019). It consists of the main town Zedelgem and the districts of Aartrijke , Loppem and Veldegem . Bruges is 8 km north-northeast, Ostend on the Belgian coast 18 km north-west.
history
Towards the end of the Second World War, the Zedelgem prisoner-of-war camp for up to 60,000 prisoners of the Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS existed in the area .
traffic
The next motorway exits are at Bruges on the A10 / E 40 and at Ruddervoorde on the A17 .
Zedelgem has a regional train station on the Kortrijk - Zedelgem - Bruges railway line ; National express trains also stop in Bruges.
