Vleteren is a rural municipality in the Belgian province of West Flanders . The municipality consists of the places Oostvleteren, Westvleteren and Woesten. On January 1, 2019, Vleteren had a total population of 3691 inhabitants. The entire municipality covers an area of ​​38.15 km², which means a population density of 97 inhabitants / km².

Attractions

  • Vleteren is known for the St. Sixtus Abbey of the Trappists , who brew the famous Trappist beer Westvleteren there .
  • The St. Rictrudis Church in the Woesten part of the municipality of Vleteren was rebuilt in 1923 after being destroyed in the First World War; the origin of the church goes back to the 15th century.
