Franck "Francky" Vandendriessche (born April 7, 1971 in Waregem ) is a former Belgian football goalkeeper and current football goalkeeping coach .

Life

Vandendriessche started playing football at SV Waregem in 1979 . Like many goalkeepers, he was initially a field player, but stood in goal because the regular goalkeeper was out and he made himself available as a substitute. In 1989 he moved up to the club's professional squad and made his debut in the Pro League in 1991 . When his club was relegated in 1998, he moved to Excelsior Mouscron .

In 2002, Vandendriessche was voted Goalkeeper of the Year in Belgium. In the same year he was part of the Belgian squad for the World Cup , but was only the third goalkeeper behind Geert De Vlieger and Frédéric Herpoel and was therefore not used. He played his only international match for Belgium on March 29, 2003 against Croatia in qualifying for EURO 2004 . The game ended in a 4-0 defeat.

On September 23, 2004 there was a positive doping test after the game against KVC Westerlo at Vandendriessche. He had taken a medicine containing corticosteroids for back pain . In January of the following year he was acquitted of doping charges. In the summer of 2005, Vandendriessche moved to Cercle Bruges , where he ended his active career in 2007.

He then began his new career as a goalkeeper coach and so far has been a goalkeeper coach for the Belgian national football team in addition to several professional stations in 2009.
