Johann Hörist

Johann Hörist (born May 13, 1961 in Eisenzicken , Unterwart parish ; † April 12, 2007 in Vienna ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and from 2004 until his death in 2007 rector of the Pontifical Institute Collegio Teutonico di Santa Maria dell'Anima .

Life

Johann Hörist was the son of a farmer-couple in Eisenzicken , community Unterwart , in the district of Oberwart in Austria's Burgenland born. He first attended the episcopal seminary (boys' seminar) in Mattersburg and then entered the Catholic seminary of the Eisenstadt diocese in Vienna. On 29 June 1985 he received the Cathedral Eisenstadt the priesthood . After the chaplain years in Eisenstadt from 1987 to 1991, he was university assistant at the Institute for Eastern Church Studies and Patrology at the University of Vienna . Between 1987 and 2004 he was in charge of the Burgenland parishes and parish associations in Oggau, Markt St. Martin-Landsee-Neutal, Edelstal, Pamhagen and Müllendorf.

In 1994 he became a doctor of theology at the Theological Catholic University of Vienna doctorate . From 1994 to 1999 he was an advocate at the Episcopal Diocesan Court in Eisenstadt, and later also a representative of the diocese in the ethics committee of the Burgenland provincial government. Between 1996 and 1999 he studied canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and trained in court in Rome. Until 2004 he was Vice-Official and Diocesan Judge of the Episcopal Diocesan Court in the Diocese of Eisenstadt .

From 1998 to 1999, Hörist initially worked as Vice Rector of the Pontifical College of Priests Santa Maria dell'Anima (Pontificio Istituto Teutonico Santa Maria dell 'Anima), in 2004 he was appointed by John Paul II to succeed Richard Mathes ; In 2004 he was appointed papal chaplain (monsignor).

In the course of beatification in 2002, as an episcopal envoy, he was responsible for the reburial of Ladislaus Batthyány-Strattmann's body for burial in the family crypt in the Franciscan monastery in Güssing .

He died after a short illness in the hospital of the Merciful Brothers in Vienna and was buried at his own request in Rome, at Campo Santo Teutonico .
