St David's Church (Bathgate)

The St David's Church is a S.Domingos Presbyterian church building in the Scottish town of Bathgate in the Council Area West Lothian . In 1994 the structure was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Monument Category B.

The building was built in 1904 to a design by Scottish architect James Graham Fairley . His design won a bronze medal at the World Exhibition in Paris. 1954 new lead glass windows were installed. They show the Saints Columban , Andrew and Ninian . The building has been converted in the meantime and currently houses a night club.

St David's Church is located on George Street in the city center. The masonry consists of embossed red sandstone , while the building openings are bordered with polished sandstone, which was also used on the corner stones . The two-wing wrought - iron entrance portal is integrated in the middle of the east facade on the gable end. It is a pointed arch portal with a richly ornamented reveal . Slender lancet windows with pressed pointed arches are installed along the nave . In addition to the surrounding base cornices, there are also various belt cornices. The gable roof is covered with gray slate. The bell tower is not integrated into the building, but rises up as a slender campanile on the south side. Pilaster strips and slender lancet windows reinforce the verticality of the tower. It closes with a polygonal hood.
