The Soers [ zøːɐ̯s ] is a landscape in Aachen , part of which belongs to the Aachen district, but mostly to the Laurensberg district. The district, which is still rural today, extends from the slope of the Lousberg and the Müschpark to the north. The Soers is a wetland that is drained by several streams and traversed by the torrent , which flows into the Wurm here . At the northern end of the Soers, this is the only drain that leaves the Aachen basin . This means that the Soers, at around 140 m above sea level, is also the deepest part of the Aachen valley basin and is characterized by the fertile loess soil that was blown onto the northern flank of the Lousberg around 13,000 years ago.

St. Raphael Monastery and Raphaelshöfe
former police headquarters and prison

The Soers is best known for the old Tivoli , the former football stadium of Alemannia Aachen , which was named after the former Tivoli estate , the St. Raphael monastery and, in earlier times, for the numerous mills that were used as grain, oil or Fulling mills did their job or served as dye works, scraping and cloth factories.

After the Talbot family, owners of the Talbot wagon factory , had entire housing estates built in the area of today's Talbothof for their higher-paid employees in the early 20th century , the large undeveloped areas and the convenient location on the A motorway led to the construction of the estate 4 in recent years for further development. Among other things, the former Aachen police headquarters were built (move to Aachen-Forst at the beginning of 2019) and - in two construction phases - the Aachen penal institution and the Aachen tax office.

The Soers is one of the few place names in German that are always used with an article .

The city of Aachen, the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein (equestrian sport and organizer of the CHIO ) and Alemannia Aachen adopted an integrated event and space management for a Soers sports park. Most of the sports facilities, including parking lots and green spaces, are shared. The sports park is located between Krefelder Straße ( B 57 ), Eulersweg and Soerser Weg. Is easily accessible and can be reached via the A4 and B57 autobahns without an environmental zone sticker .

The Soers sports park is connected to local public transport by bus lines 51 and 151 via the bus stop of the same name . As a rule, ASEAG uses numerous additional buses on event days to ensure smooth arrival and departure.

The following sports facilities and buildings are currently part of the sports park:

Since the Neuköllner Strasse sports hall does not meet the requirements of the volleyball Bundesliga , the PTSV is planning a multifunctional hall in cooperation with the ALRV on the site of the former police headquarters in the Soers sports park.
