Preuswald is a settlement in the south of the city of Aachen . It was named after the surrounding forest area of the same name, which is derived from Preuse (border).

location

The settlement is located in the Aachen-Mitte district on the southern edge of the Aachen Forest at an altitude of 220 m near the border with Belgium . The triangle of Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands is 2.5 kilometers to the northwest. The settlement is accessible from Lütticher Straße ( B264 ). The street village of Bildchen extends south of the Preuswald settlement along Lütticher Straße . As a special attraction, the first and currently only climbing forest in Aachen is in the immediate vicinity . The Mulleklenkes transmission tower is located north of the settlement . In local public transport, Bildchen can be reached with a bus on AVV line 24, which goes from the bus station to Kelmis.

history

The Preuswald was already the climatic health resort of the upscale Aachen population at the end of the 19th century. For this purpose, the Kaiser Wilhelm convalescent home was built here, from which the center for child, youth and family aid Maria im Tann later developed.

The Preuswald settlement was built in the 1960s / 1970s. The largest home owner is Vonovia SE , formerly Deutsche Annington , which owns around 625 apartments there. In 2008 Preuswald had 2055 inhabitants.

From 1990 to 2000, Preuswald belonged to the former parish “Maria im Tann” with pictures and the customs settlement. From 2010 it became part of the parish of St. Jakob .
