Verlautenheide is a rural district in the north-east of Aachen with around 3500 inhabitants. Verlautenheide is located in the Haaren district . The highest point is the Haarberg (almost 240 m).

The eastern exit is called Quinx .

history

The village of Verlautenheide initially developed around Gut Heiderhof and was originally also called Die Heyd . It wasn't until much later that it became a street village. Heide boven Haren is mentioned for the first time in 1445 in an interest and lease register of the imperial abbey Kornelimünster , which means Verlautenheide. The Kahlgrachtmühle built in the 15th century is an important testimony to that time .

Together with the municipality of Haaren, Verlautenheide belonged to the Aachen Empire until the end of the 18th century , the borderline of which, coming from Haaren, continued directly on the southern flank of the village towards Weiden . At that time, Verlautenheide was also the location of one of the eight watchtowers of the Aachen Empire, of which the Türmchenweg still reminds us today . After the occupation by the French in 1792 and 1794, Haaren and Verlautenheide became the independent Mairie Haaren, which belonged to France from 1801 ( Peace of Lunéville ) and to Prussia from 1814 ( First Peace of Paris ).

In October 1944, the place was highly competitive; the US troops closed their ring around Aachen here.

In 1958, the first Aachen motorway exit "Würselen / Verlautenheide" (today's A 544 ) was built in Verlautenheide ; Around 1963 the Aachen motorway junction was built nearby .

The municipality of Haaren was independent until the end of 1971 and was then incorporated into the city of Aachen on the basis of the Aachen Act with effect from January 1, 1972 .
