Oberforstbach is a district of Aachen and is a suburb southeast of the city. Since the municipal reorganization in 1972, it has belonged to the Kornelimünster / Walheim district .

history

Village square

The first documentary mention comes from August 4th 1336 - but it was probably founded between the 9th and 11th centuries. At that time the name was still "Vorsbach", which may have been derived from Frosch-Bach or Forst-Bach.

At that time the place belonged to the imperial abbey Kornelimünster . It was planned to be located on a ridge along the (then so-called) Dorfstrasse.

On June 9, 1802, it received the status of an independent chapel community.

On February 1, 1912, it became a parish due to the increased population.

Until the local reorganization, Oberforstbach belonged to the Walheim community . Since January 1, 1972, Oberforstbach has belonged to the Aachen district of Kornelimünster / Walheim .

Brook

The Oberforstbach gave the place its name. It rises as a small meadow stream between Oberforstbacher Straße and Nerscheider Weg. Its spring dries up in summer. After a good two kilometers, it joins the Holzbach near Niederforstbach and flows together as the Rollefbach into the Inde .

Business

The Pascalstrasse industrial park is located on the southern edge of the town. More than 30 small and large companies have settled here since 1985. A large number of these are companies from the IT sector , including Inform and Worldline . The city of Aachen specifically promotes the settlement of companies with a technologically innovative claim.
