Worldline is a French listed company active in the payment and transaction services sector. The company's headquarters are in Bezons , France.

history

Worldline began as a business unit of what would later become the IT group Atos ; the first contract for the processing of card-based banking solutions from the Carte Bleue Group was signed in 1973 by Sligos, an IT subsidiary of what was then Crédit Lyonnais, which was later merged into Atos. In 2004, all payment and e-services activities within the Atos Group were bundled in the newly founded company Atos Worldline. The company is expanding its leadership role in critical transactional services with a strong presence in France and Germany. Belgian companies Banksys and Bank Card Company incorporated Atos Worldline in 2006 and established themselves as the European market leader in payment services in anticipation of the European challenges associated with SEPA . Atos Worldline started its high-tech transactional services development strategy in 2009 and expanded its business model to Spain, the Netherlands, Great Britain and Asia. In 2010 Atos Worldline took over the Indian payment service provider Venture Infotek and entered the Indian payments market. In 2011/2012, the parent company Atos acquired Siemens IT Services & Solutions. With this acquisition Atos Worldline expanded its range of transactional services worldwide. In addition, Atos Worldline strengthened its position in the payments market with the acquisition of Quality Equipment.

The company has been listed on Euronext (Euronext: WLN) in Paris since 2014. In 2016, the European payment company Equens was taken over and its activities were merged with the comparable activities (payment transaction services for financial institutions) in the new subsidiary Equensworldline . In 2018 Worldline took over the Swiss company SIX Payment Services , which in return became a minority shareholder of Worldline. In 2019, Apple and Google Pay were activated on Worldline's POS terminals . Also in 2019, Worldline entered into a letter of intent with Bitcoin Suisse to jointly enable the acceptance of cryptocurrencies at POS terminals and in online shops.

Takeover of Ingenico

On February 3, 2020, Worldline announced a public takeover offer for French competitor Ingenico . Ingenico is valued by the offer at 7.8 billion euros. The merger will create the fourth largest digital payment provider in the world. The German savings bank group, which together with Ingenico owns the Payone joint venture in Germany, welcomed the merger. Payone will thereby enlarge the product range and further digitize the processes. "The components of Worldline will help Payone to achieve their goals more quickly, for the benefit of retailers and institutes," explained the Sparkasse Group.
