background

The company was founded in 1899 by the civil engineers Alexandre Giros and Louis Loucheur under the name Société générale d'entreprises (SGE), something like "General Company". In 2000 the company changed its name to Vinci. Vinci is divided into six divisions and generated sales of € 48.053 billion in 2019.

On November 22, 2016, a press release announced that the company was allegedly revising its 2015 and 2016 figures and firing its chief financial officer. These reports triggered massive price losses for Vinci shares within a very short period of time. The group temporarily lost more than 18 percent of its market value. However, management very soon stated that this press release was fake.
