Aggregate

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aggregates are a group of components of a mixture that is used as a material that is not a primary function carrier. The aggregates belong to the auxiliary materials ( additives ) .

Important functions of the aggregates are:

  • As a filler (body) : They give the binding body from the binding agent hold to avoid sedimentation and give the material volume and stability ( matrix of the material).
  • As a leaning agent : They initially serve to reduce the required proportion of more expensive binders. In the case of shrinking binder systems, the leaning also helps to reduce shrinkage .
  • Composites that give the building material properties of a composite material .
  • Hardeners that give the material greater mechanical strength.
