The BVR bus Rheinland GmbH , shortly BVR , took on 1 October 1989 as a newly established transport company based in Dusseldorf their operation. Today it is a wholly owned subsidiary of DB Regio . The BVR cooperates on a contractual basis with the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR), the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg (VRS) and the Aachener Verkehrsverbund (AVV). Up until December 31, 2011, there was also cooperation with the Verkehrsgemeinschaft Niederrhein (VGN); on January 1, 2012, the area of the VGN was incorporated into the area of the VRR.
BVR has been operating on the market under the brand name DB Rheinlandbus since November 1, 2008 .
At the beginning of 2002 the two subsidiaries Regionalverkehr Euregio Maas-Rhein (RVE) and Regionalverkehr Niederrhein (RVN) were founded. From December 15, 2002, the RVE served the previous BVR lines in the AVV, the RVN took over the BVR lines in the VGN. The subsidiaries initially had their own brand identity, but from November 2008, like the BVR, also appeared under the name DB Rheinlandbus. At the end of August 2017, the two companies were reintegrated into the BVR and dissolved.

Former routes in the AVV
All the lines listed have been served by the BVR subsidiary RVE since December 15, 2002 . All three-digit lines result from the former two-digit lines, as there were some double line numbers in the AVV. This three position was introduced on May 28, 2000. The Heinsberg district has the 400 number, the Düren the 200 number and Aachen partially kept the two-digit number, otherwise received the 100 number. Some express buses were given the designation SB (Cities Fast Bus) (example: line 111 became SB11) (today line 220)
