The Velbert local bus is a city bus system in the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Velbert in the Mettmann district . It is operated by Busverkehr Rheinland and consists of eight lines, all of which begin with OV , which means local bus Velbert .

history

The Velbert local bus has existed since 2001 with its OV line numbers. Its predecessor were the bus routes 762-769, some of which only ran within Velbert. Lines 764 and 765 also ran to Heiligenhaus and connected the two cities with generous consideration of peripheral areas. At the turn of the century, the inner-city local bus routes were introduced in the Mettmann district.

Network changeover by ZOB Velbert

With the opening of the central bus station in Velbert in September 2015, the route network was completely revised. The connection to Langenberg , which was previously particularly criticized, was switched to a 20-minute cycle. Perspectives such as a better connection to the Velbert-Mitte sports center, but also a 20-minute cycle on the OV6 line to improve the connection to the train station and the Velbert-Langenberg district, have been realized. The cycle consolidation of the OV6 line was implemented with the commissioning of the ZOB. In addition, the route network is also being revised. Line OV1 now begins / ends at the central bus station and serves Oststraße in the direction of Birth. The OV2 will continue to connect Nordpark via Velbert-Mitte, Kostenberg, Am Berg, Birth with the Nordfriedhof in Losenburg every 20 minutes, but in both directions via the ZOB and no longer via Oststraße. The OV3 line begins at the central bus station and no longer in Langenhorst and takes over the southern part of the OV5 line to Am Grünewald, instead of running via Am Berg, Birth to Losenberg Nordfriedhof like the OV2. Line OV4 no longer runs north to the Nordpark, but to Langenhorst. The OV5 line is not available for this. Lines OV7 and OV8 now also serve the sports center, whereas they used to be passed through Bahnhofstrasse or Langenberger Strasse, and line OV8 only runs to Kidneyhof and no longer to Langenberg.

Lines

Current lines

There are seven lines in the Velbert local bus. Four of these run every 20 minutes and the other three every hour and open up the entire city area, except for the Neviges district , including the Tönisheide district . There is, however, a good connection and development through line 649 of WSW mobil . All seven lines serve the central bus station (ZOB) Velbert in the center of Velbert and mainly open up the districts of the Velbert-Mitte district. The hub in Velbert-Mitte is the ZOB, where all local bus lines run.

The line overview follows. The selected colors correspond to the representation in the 2014 line network plan.

Former lines and routes

Network before commissioning ZOB

Before the ZOB opened, eight lines ran on the Velbert local bus. With the exception of OV1, which runs every 20 minutes, these ran every hour and opened up the entire city area, except for the Neviges district , including the Tönisheide district . At that time, however, there was already a good connection and development through the WSW mobil line 649 . All eight lines served the central local traffic axis (Oststraße / Friedrich-Ebert-Straße) in the center of Velbert and then, as now, mainly served the districts of the Velbert-Mitte district. Junctions were Velbert-Mitte Postamt, which was the predecessor of the ZOB, and Velbert-Christuskirche, where all local bus routes run. Due to the ring traffic in Velbert-Mitte, these were only approached in one direction. The Postamt stop was partially approached in both directions.

Below is a list of former line routes

OV1 Velbert-Mitte, Willy-Brandt-Platz - Velbert-Mitte Post Office (→) / Christ Church (←) - Parkbad - Velbert-Birth , Birther Kreisel 2004-2015 was shortened with the opening of the central bus station by the branch Postamt-Willy-Brandt-Platz
OV2 Velbert-Losenburg , Nordfriedhof  - Klinikum Niederberg  - Birth  - Am Berg  - Am Kostenberg  - Velbert-Mitte Post Office (→) / Christ Church (←) - Velbert, Am Nordpark 2004-2015 Line drove in the direction of the north cemetery via post office and in the direction of Am Nordpark via Christ Church. In addition, it used to run via Am Kostenberg and Heidestraße instead of Poststraße, and between Klinikum Niederberg and Krehwinkler Höfe via Paracelsusstraße instead of Robert-Koch-Straße.
OV3 old The former line OV3 had a completely different route than the current line OV3 and has nothing to do with it:
Velbert-Losenburg, Nordfriedhof - Klinikum Niederberg  - Birth  - Am Berg  - Velbert-Mitte Postamt - Velbert-Langenhorst , Hasenpfad
2004-2015 Operated from Langenhorst to Velbert-Mitte post office parallel to the former OV5 line, from the post office via Poststrasse directly to Velbert, Am Berg and between Velbert, Am Berg and Nordfriedhof parallel to OV2, although like today's OV2 in Losenburg via Robert-Koch -Straße, while the OV2 line ran on Paracelsusstraße. With the 2015 timetable change, the Langenhorst – Postamt (ZOB) section was transferred to the OV4 line, which has been running every 20 minutes since then.
OV4 Velbert-Kostenberg, Am Grünewald - Kostenberg - Velbert-Mitte Post Office (→) / Christ Church (←) - Velbert, Am Nordpark 2004-2015 Line drove towards Am Grünewald via post office and towards Am Nordpark via Christ Church. The section Velbert-Mitte – Nordpark was canceled in favor of the new 20-minute cycle of the OV2. For this, the OV4 took over the route to Langenhorst.
OV5 Velbert-Kostenberg, Am Grünewald - Willy-Brandt-Platz - Velbert-Mitte Post Office (→) / Christ Church (←) - Velbert-Langenhorst , Hasenpfad 2004-2015 The OV5 line was canceled with the 2015 timetable change. The north branch Velbert-Mitte – Langenhorst was taken over by the OV4 line, the south branch Velbert-Mitte – Willy-Brandt-Platz – Am Grünewald a new line OV3.
OV6 Velbert-Losenburg, Niederberg Clinic  - Velbert-Mitte Post Office - Diakonissenhaus  - Velbert-Langenberg Bf. 2004-2015 Lines OV6, 7 and 8 required different travel times between Velbert-Postamt and Velbert-Langenberg station. These were 21 (line OV6), 34 (line OV7) or 45 (line OV8) minutes. At Langenberg station they had a connection to the S9 line of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn ( Haltern am See  - Gladbeck West  - Bottrop  - Essen  - Velbert-Langenberg - Wuppertal ). The OV6 had connections to the S9 from and towards Haltern am See , while the OV7 and OV8 only had connections to the S9 from and towards Bottrop .

With the 2015 timetable change, the OV6 received the 20-minute cycle and passed the branch to the clinic to the OV7. The OV8 was shortened in favor of the 20-minute intervals of the OV6 and to avoid parallel traffic with the 637 line between Kidneyhof and Langenberg to Kidneyhof.

It was put into operation as a successor to the regional bus line 762 in 2004 and served the section between the clinic and the old foundry. It was discontinued in 2008 as part of a network redesign. Since then, the Klinikum - Velbert-Mitte section has been served by the OV6 line, which previously only ran from the post office to Langenberg train station .

Taxi bus

line Line course business
T1 Velbert-Nordpark , Moltkeplatz (OV2-5) - Velbert-Bernsmühle
Taxibus only runs by appointment
since 2011/12

From the 2011/2012 timetable change to the 2015 timetable change, the local bus was supplemented by a T1 taxi bus line. This taxi bus line was the remnant of the Velbert bus route 171, which connected Velbert and Essen-Kupferdreh. Essener Verkehrs-AG has discontinued this line due to insufficient utilization . The city of Velbert was able to maintain its branch of this line by converting it to a flexible form of operation . Since then, a taxi bus has been running from Bernsmühle on the city limits of Essen to Moltkeplatz. There he had a connection to the other lines of the Velbert local bus. It only operated by prior arrangement, at least half an hour before departure. The taxi bus service was discontinued in 2015.
