The Gladbeck West Railway Station is the main station in Gladbecker city. The station is located in the west of the Mitte district and belongs to station category 4. Gladbeck also has the Gladbeck Ost and Gladbeck-Zweckel stations .
history
Gladbeck West station was built and opened on May 1, 1905, at the same time as the Oberhausen-Osterfeld – Hamm line and the connection to the Winterswijk – Gelsenkirchen-Bismarck line. Passenger traffic existed from the start, but only on the route between Osterfeld and Hamm. Passenger traffic on the connection to Gladbeck-Zweckel did not begin until October 3, 1926.
Due to mining, the station was on a hill. To the west of the reception building, Rentforter Strasse crossed under the tracks. Since the underpass could no longer be passed in heavy rain, it was replaced by an overpass in the mid-1960s. As a result, the entire track field was lowered by three and a half meters. The Europabrücke was completed in 1967.
The original station building from 1905 was demolished in 1971 due to mountain damage. The German Federal Railroad made 1972 a low-rise building with surrounding canopy erected as a new reception building. The Güterabfertigung made up the largest part of the interior, a smaller portion served as counter area . In 2002 the building was closed. After building an extension, it now serves as a bike station.
In the course of some renaming of Deutsche Bahn for better orientation in the VRR , this station should in future be called Gladbeck Hbf . However, the city of Gladbeck has rejected this project because this station does not have the qualities of a main station . The Gladbeck Ost train station , which is to be relocated to the new central bus station in Oberhof , was to be given the new name Gladbeck Mitte as part of the renaming .
