Gelsenkirchen-Buer Nord is a separation station in Gelsenkirchen-Buer . It is located at the junction of the VzG route 2252 (Gelsenkirchen-Buer Nord - Marl Lippe) from the VzG route 2250 ( Oberhausen-Osterfeld - Hamm [Westf] Rbf ). From 1905 to 1998 the site also served as a passenger station; With the conversion of the line running here to S-Bahn operation, the access point was closed and the Gelsenkirchen-Buer Nord Hp stop, which is more conveniently located, went into operation. This is located east of the original station on the track to Marl Lippe.
Location and structure
The station is in the north of Gelsenkirchen-Buer at kilometer 17.6 of the Hamm-Osterfelder Bahn. The route to Marl Lippe, known colloquially as the V9, leads out of this at the eastern head of the station. The station has three main tracks, two of which are continuous main tracks. The third track is rented out as a siding. The station building is located south of the tracks with an exit to the street Zum Alten Bahnhof. It has been used by a fabric dealer since 2013.
To the west of the station, the V9 leaves the Hamm-Osterfelder Bahn. The stop of the S-Bahn is on the V9 shortly after the entry signal 48 G at the level of the Königswiese street. This is crossed on a bridge and called Polsumer Straße north of the station. It is the direct connection from Buer to the Hassel district, to Polsum and Wulfen . The stop has a simple side platform and can be reached via a staircase and an elevator . The area between Königswiese / Polsumer Straße and the railway line is used as a Park & Ride car park.
The railway line to Marl has a single track in Buer, but is structurally prepared for the second track. East of the stop from the direction of Marl, this would first pass under the Hamm-Osterfelder Bahn and then run parallel to it, so that a level separation of the two routes would be possible without crossing the opposite track . The transfer of this fourth track over the Königswiese has been performed as a preliminary construction work . The existing track trough served for some time as the pull-out track for the Buer Nord station.

The Buer Nord station (after 1949: Gelsenkirchen-Buer Nord) was opened together with the Hamm-Osterfelder Bahn on May 1, 1905. The route branching off here via Marl in the direction of Haltern am See went into operation on September 27, 1968. The Deutsche Bundesbahn gave up continuous passenger traffic in the direction of Hamm for the 1983 summer timetable. The remaining route Haltern-Marl-Buer and further in the direction of Gladbeck and Bottrop remained and was included in the network of the S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr as line S9 on May 24, 1998 . In order to enable a cheaper change to other public transport, the stop was relocated to the Königswiese street. The previous station was retained as an operating point.

The (old) train station also had a tram connection until 1984, the stop of the same name was about 100 meters south of the reception building on the Nordring and has been called Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße since it was relocated in 1998 . The stop went into operation together with the Buer - Gladbeck section of the Vestische Kleinbahnen (from 1940: Vestische trams) on March 1, 1925. From 1978 it was the end point of Vestische Line 10 (from January 1, 1980: Line 210) to Recklinghausen Hauptbahnhof for two years . With the further shortening of this line to Herten, line 302 of the Bochum-Gelsenkirchen trams (Bogestra) took over the section Buer Rathaus - Buer Nord on October 1, 1980 . The connection was finally abandoned four years later, on June 30, 1984. The reason for the hiring was missing spare parts for a switch at Buer town hall; the line belonged to the Vestische trams until the end, which anyway gave up the local rail traffic.
With the discontinuation of the tram, passengers who came from the north and continued to Gelsenkirchen's south had to change trains at Buer Town Hall. The bus lines of the Vestischen and the buses and trams of the Bogestra end at the Buer town hall. Destinations such as the Gelsenkirchen University of Applied Sciences , Erle , the Veltins-Arena , the ZOOM Erlebniswelt and Gelsenkirchen city center with the main train station cannot be reached without changing trains. The local association of the Greens in Gelsenkirchen therefore called in 2010 to extend the tram line 302 of the Bogestra from Buer town hall to the (new) Buer Nord station in order to directly connect some of the destinations mentioned. The median on the Königswiese was used by the trams of the Vestische trams until May 29, 1977.
Signal box
Until 2012, the station had a SpDrL30 relay interlocking from Standard Elektrik Lorenz . Since 2007, the control and monitoring of the switches and signals has been carried out by the Of signal box in Oberhausen-Osterfeld . In addition to the old signal box, an area computer was built that controls the train station and the neighboring Gladbeck West and Westerholt operating points on VzG route 2250, as well as the Marl CWH junction on VzG route 2252 .
future
It is planned to run the S9 line every 30 minutes from June 2020 and to split the route from Gelsenkirchen-Buer Nord. One route to Marl - Haltern and the other to Herten - Recklinghausen should alternate . Since the S9 in the direction of Recklinghausen has to use the Hertener Bahn , which currently has no platform, the Gelsenkirchen-Buer Nord station has to be expanded. According to a press report, the timely implementation of this idea is not certain.
