Railway stations in North Rhine-Westphalia |
Velbert-Neviges is a stopping point and former train station in the Velbert district of Neviges . It is one of four stations on the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn in Velbert. The other three are Velbert-Leberhof , Velbert-Langenberg and Velbert-Rosenhügel , which is located in the southeast of Neviges. Along with Velbert-Langenberg, Velbert-Neviges is one of two regional express stops in Velbert.
history
Together with the Wuppertal-Vohwinkel-Essen-Überruhr railway , the station north of the center of the then independent town of Neviges was opened on December 1, 1847 by the Prinz Wilhelm Railway Company at route kilometers 12.8.
Since Neviges was incorporated into Velbert in 1975, the name of the station was changed from Neviges to Velbert-Neviges in December 2003 . In addition, it was relocated a few hundred meters to the Nevigeser Markt so that it can be better connected to bus traffic. The original station has been preserved to this day. The former platform roof was torn down by Deutsche Bahn in March 2019 , the former reception building is now used as a restaurant. Operationally, the new facility is a stopping point .
meaning
Since the closure of the Niederbergbahn and with it the closure of the Velbert Hauptbahnhof and Velbert-Tönisheide stations, it has been Velbert's most important train station alongside Langenberg.
Since it was moved to the town center, it has been served by a bus line that runs every 20 minutes on a direct route to Velbert-Zentrum. From the train station in Langenberg the direct connection to Velbert-Zentrum could only be used once an hour until September 2015 (see train station Velbert-Langenberg # local bus Velbert ) and the train stations Velbert-Leberhof and Velbert-Rosenhügel (also located in Neviges) are too decentralized . Thus, until September 2015, the Neviges train station was the most important connection point between bus and train for the feeder traffic from Velbert-Mitte to the S 9. Since the timetable change in September 2015, the direct bus line from Langenberg train station to Velbert-Mitte has been running every 20 minutes, so that the Neviges train station is now only the most important connection point between bus and train in Velbert from the south.
Location and service
The stop is on the Wuppertal-Vohwinkel – Essen-Überruhr railway at km 12.5, the old station at km 12.8. This is served by the regional express line RE49, known as the Wupper-Lippe-Express, and the S-Bahn line S 9, whose scheduled journey time from Velbert-Neviges station is around 23 minutes (RE 49) or 27 minutes (S 9) to Essen main station and 15 minutes (RE 49) or 21 minutes (S 9) to Wuppertal main station . The station is located at the Nevigeser Markt, the former Velbert-Neviges station at the Nevigeser Dom. There is a park-and-ride facility right next to the stop . This is followed by the Neviges Markt / Bf bus stop , from which three regional bus lines and the citizens' bus lines of the Neviges Tönisheide citizen bus run. The bus lines connect the Neviges train station with Velbert-Zentrum, Neviges-Siepen, Velbert-Langenberg, Velbert-Kidneyhof, as well as Hattingen and Wuppertal - Elberfeld and Wuppertal- Barmen .
Rail transport
Velbert-Neviges station is integrated into the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn network.

The 649 bus line is perfectly coordinated with the S-Bahn in its function as a feeder from Velbert-Mitte to the S 9. The arriving 649 always stops for a while at the Neviges train station and waits for the passengers on the S 9 line before continuing towards Velbert-Mitte or Wuppertal.
future
In the course of the change in the frequency of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn (2019), the S 9 line will only run every half hour. However, line RE 49 ( Wesel - Oberhausen - Mülheim (Ruhr) Hbf - Essen Hbf - Velbert-Neviges - Wuppertal Hbf ) will also run every hour . The RE 49 line is not supposed to stop at all stations of the S 9 and therefore need nine minutes less for the Essen - Wuppertal route, which corresponds to a time saving of 19%. In Velbert-Neviges, for example, there will be a 30-minute cycle and a 60-minute cycle, a total of three trips per hour to Essen main station and Wuppertal main station. For the stations that are not served by the RE 49, according to VRR there is no need for a condensed timetable due to the low frequency of use.
Furthermore, the S 9 in the south is to be extended every hour (i.e. every second S-Bahn) via Wuppertal-Oberbarmen , Schwelm and Gevelsberg Hauptbahnhof to Hagen . In the north, every second S-Bahn is to go to Haltern am See as before, and the other one via the Hamm-Osterfelder Bahn to Recklinghausen Hbf .
