The Dinslaken Train Station is the only station of the city of Dinslaken in Wesel . It is located on the international Oberhausen - Arnhem railway line , which is part of the so-called Betuweroute , an important freight train connection between the Ruhr area and the port of Rotterdam .

Location and importance

The station is located in kilometer  13.9 of the VzG line 2270 ( Oberhausen Hbf  - Emmerich  [- Arnhem ]). It has six main tracks , of which tracks 301 and 302 are the continuous main tracks. The station has a 325 meter long and 76 centimeter high central platform (track 301/302), track 304 serves as a passing track in the direction of Emmerich. In addition, tracks 305 to 307 are used as siding. The access point is managed by DB Station & Service in station category  3.

The operating point has been remote-controlled from the Emmerich ESTW since June 2013 . The relay  interlocking Dif (type SpDrS60) from 1975, which was responsible to date, was given up for this purpose. The building still exists.

The train station is located in the eastern part of the city center. The shopping mile on the pedestrian zone is within walking distance.

Although Dinslaken is only an intermediate stop on the railway line, it is itself a major hub. The station serves as a stop for trains from Oberhausen to Emmerich am Rhein, and is also used to switch between the railway and the Duisburg tram (line 903) of importance for the neighboring city of Duisburg .

The districts in the north of Duisburg such as Walsum or Fahrn have not been accessible by rail since the Walsumbahn ceased passenger traffic . Apart from the tram, no rail-bound local transport runs through the north of Duisburg, as the main railway line runs via Oberhausen. The tram line 903 thus serves the connection between Duisburg and Dinslaken and is the feeder line for citizens in the north of Duisburg to regional rail traffic. Within Duisburg, line 903, as the north-south axis of the north-south extended city of Duisburg, represents the main line and is the most powerful line in the entire network of the Duisburg transport company .

history

Former central platform on platform 304, 2015

The station was opened by the Cologne-Mindener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft on July 1, 1856 when the first section of the Holland line from Oberhausen Hauptbahnhof to Dinslaken was opened and was the terminus of the line for a few months . On October 20, 1856, the section between Dinslaken and Emmerich went into operation, making the line between Oberhausen and Arnhem passable. The post station that had existed up to then and the daily express mail connections were discontinued after the railway line was completed.

In 1916 a new reception building was built. This was almost completely destroyed in the Second World War, together with the other facilities of the station on March 23, 1945. 100 years after the opening of the first station, the current station building was opened on July 10, 1956. It is a two-story building with a flat hipped roof . The counter hall , which extends over both floors, was to be emphasized with the limestone- framed glass facade .

On November 30, 1975, the Dif central signal box went into operation. It replaced the old mechanical signal boxes Dib and Wt. The signal box was also responsible for controlling the Voerde train station (Niederrhein) .

The station was a stop for international express trains until the end of the 1980s , which were only discontinued with the introduction of EuroCity in 1987.

In connection with the expansion of the Betuweroute, there are plans to add a second central platform with two further platform edges to the station. For this purpose, the formerly existing second central platform on track 304 and the track to be rebuilt to the west of it will be reactivated. Both platforms will also have an elevator for barrier-free access.

Buses and trams

The central bus station in Dinslakens is located on the station forecourt . It is the starting point for many bus routes to the individual districts and neighboring towns, as well as the Hünxe Citizens' Bus (short: bHx ) and in this way ensures a connection between these and local rail transport . The bus routes are all operated by NIAG . It is also the northern end of the Duisburg tram line 903 , which enables Dinslaken train station to be reached from the north of Duisburg .
