The Arnhem Centraal Station is the largest train station in the city of Arnhem and the Gelderland province and a central hub in the urban public transport. National regional and long-distance trains and the ICE International , which runs from Amsterdam to Frankfurt am Main , operate at the station .

history

The current Arnhem train station was opened on May 14, 1845. In 1954, the station received a new building, which was built according to a design by the renowned Dutch architect Hermanus Gerardus Jacob Schelling. The Amsterdam – Arnhem railway line will be completed around the same time the station opens. This railway line continues over the Oberhausen – Arnhem railway line into the Ruhr area .

The station has been extensively renovated and renewed according to a modern design. From 2006 to 2011 a temporary station building was in operation that could only be reached by stairs or the elevator. The new platform tunnel was opened in July 2011, then the alternative building was demolished. The new station went into full operation on November 19, 2015, on this day the station also received the addition Centraal , the Dutch equivalent of the German central station .
