The Alkmaar Station is the largest train station in the Dutch town of Alkmaar . The station is used by 21,026 people every day (2018). It is the central hub in urban public transport. National regional and long-distance trains run at the station.
history
The station was opened on December 20, 1865 with the Nieuwediep – Amsterdam line. The station building and the tracks have been rebuilt several times over the years. In the 1960s, the station was given a characteristic glass front . In addition to the Alkmaar train station, the Alkmaar Noord stop, which opened in the late 1970s, still exists in the city. There is a seven-track storage area behind the station. The trains that end and overnight in Alkmaar, as well as the trains only required during rush hour, are parked there.
