The Sittard Station is the largest train station in the Dutch town of Sittard . It is the central hub in urban public transport. National regional and long-distance trains run at the station. All trains coming from the north to the southern municipalities of Limburg province stop at the station.
Platform track 3 of the station has the longest platform in the Netherlands at 700 meters.
history
The first station opened in 1862. After the station had been converted twice to enlarge it, it was replaced by a new building in 1923. The station was given its current appearance in 1993. The Maastricht - Venlo line was opened in 1865. The connection to Heerlen followed in 1896.
