Karel Hendrik van Brederode

Karel Hendrik van Brederode (born December 11, 1827 in Haarlem , † September 19, 1897 in Deventer ) was a Dutch engineer and architect of a variety of train stations .

Life

Van Brederode was born on December 11, 1827 in Haarlem. From 1843 to 1853 he worked for Hollandsche IJzeren Spoorweg-Maatschappij and was a candidate for the construction of the Amsterdam – Rotterdam railway line . During this time he was also employed at the Rijkstelegraaf for a time. From 1860 he worked for the Maatschappij tot Exploitatie van Staatsspoorwegen , where he was responsible for the design of the so-called Standaardstations ( German  "standard stations" ). By 1880 around 90 train stations are said to have been built from his hand. In 1882 he took over the position of chief engineer at Koninglijke Nederlandsche Locaalspoorweg-Maatschappij . There he is said to have designed around 20 other stations. He resigned in 1890 and then became a member of the supervisory board of Koninglijke Nederlandsche Locaalspoorweg-Maatschappij. Van Brederode held this office until his death. He lived in Apeldoorn all his life . He died on September 19, 1897 in Deventer.
