The Hengelo station , also Hengelo (O) , is the largest station in the Dutch city of Hengelo . The station was used by 6,951 people every day in 2018. It is the central hub in urban public transport (ÖPNV). National regional and long-distance trains as well as the cross-border Intercity from Berlin to Amsterdam operate at the station .

history

The station was opened on October 18, 1865 with the Almelo – Salzbergen railway line. The connections to Zutphen followed a month later, and those to Glanerbeek in January 1868. The station was given its current appearance in 1951 (architect: Hermanus Gerardus Jacob Schelling). In 2009 the underpass tunnel was widened and optically changed.
