The station Apeldoorn is the largest station in the Dutch city of Apeldoorn . The station is used by 14,840 people every day (2018). It is the central hub in urban public transport (ÖPNV). National regional and long-distance trains as well as the cross-border Intercity (EC line 77) from Amsterdam to Berlin run from the station .

history

The station went into operation on May 15, 1876, when the section of the Amsterdam – Zutphen line between Amersfoort and Zutphen was opened. On January 22, 1943, over 1200 Jewish patients and employees of the Het Apeldoornsche Bosch psychiatric clinic were deported by train directly to Auschwitz from this station and murdered there.

The station was completely rebuilt between 2004 and 2008, except for the station building, which was only completely renovated. Since then it has been possible to drive under the station through a tunnel, but this only applies to pedestrians and bicycles. Until 2006, the train station was the only one in Apeldoorn, which is rather unusual for a city with just under 140,000 inhabitants. It was decided to open the Osseveld stations on the railway line to Deventer and De Maten on the line to Zutphen.
