Sprinter (type of train)
The Sprinter is a train type of the Dutch railway company NS . It can be compared with the common name of regional train in Germany .

The exterior of the Sprinter trains is dressed in blue and white. Sprinters serve as commuter trains that are used for short journeys and stop at every station on a route. The Sprinter is used by 48 percent of all train passengers in the Netherlands for at least part of their journey.
history
The name Sprinter was first used by the NS railway company in 2003 for regional trains, after having used the term Stoptrein for years. Since then, the name Stoptrein has only been used by other railway companies such as Arriva . Since 2012, the NS have been using the term Intercity for express trains in addition to the term Sprinter for regional trains . Trains of the Sprinter category usually consist of so-called Sprinter material. These include the SGMm (1975–1979, 1979–1984; 2003–2006, 2008–2009), DDM 1 (1984–1986; 2016), DDAR (1991–1998; 2014–2015) and Stadler Flirt (2015–2017) series ). Since 2017, 206 trains of the SNG series , which are manufactured by the Spanish company CAF , have been gradually put into operation .

All Sprinter trains are equipped as follows:
- Division into two car classes
- Bicycle parking spaces in the entry and exit area
- Facilities for disabled people
- Travel information and broadcast reports screens
- Wi-Fi in new trains (from 2017)
- Toilets (partially handicapped accessible)
