Railway line Amsterdam – Rotterdam
The Amsterdam – Rotterdam railway line - also known as the Oude Lijn - is a railway line between Amsterdam and Rotterdam . The railway line is one of the most important and busiest lines in the Netherlands . The route is about 85 kilometers.
history
The first section between Amsterdam and Haarlem was opened on September 20, 1839, making it the first railway line in the Netherlands, which is why it is also known as the "Oude Lijn" (old line). The section between Haarlem and Leiden was opened to traffic in 1842. This was followed by the sections between Leiden and The Hague in 1843 and the last section between The Hague and Rotterdam in June 1847, whereby the Laantje van van der Gaag had to be bypassed briefly at Delft . The line was originally built in 1945 mm broad gauge ; So that it could be connected to the future railway lines, it was converted to standard gauge in 1866. In 1927 the line was electrified . In Delft, the line and the station were moved underground. The tunnel section, which went into operation in 2015, is currently still double-tracked, the tunnel tubes for a later four-track expansion have already been built.
business
Most of the line is double-track , with the exception of the sections between Leiden and Rijswijk and between Schiedam and Rotterdam, where the line has four tracks. The maximum permissible speed is mostly 140 km / h, except for the section between Amsterdam and Haarlem; there it is 130 km / h. On the section between Leiden and Mariahoeve (The Hague), speeds of 160 km / h were only possible for the Thalys ; this was based on a special adaptation of the ATB . However, the Thalys now uses HSL Zuid .
There are 19 train stations on the line. The route is now greatly relieved by the high-speed line HSL Zuid ( high-speed line Schiphol – Antwerp ), which the Thalys and domestic Fyra trains have been using since 2009. Disadvantages arose for the train stations in the major cities of Haarlem, Leiden, The Hague and Delft , since the high-speed line does not pass there.
expansion
As part of the “Programma Hoogfrequent Spoorvervoer”, the capacity between Rijswijk and Rottdam Centraal is to be increased from the current 22 trains per hour to 28 trains per hour. To this end, the line between Rijswijk and Delft Campus is to be expanded from two to four tracks. The signaling block distances between the Delft Campus and Rotterdam Centraal are to be reduced. The measures should be completed by the end of 2024.
