The Woerden – Leiden railway line is a railway line between Woerden and Leiden . The length of the route is around 32 kilometers.

history

The railway line was opened on October 15, 1878. In 1950 the entire line was electrified. The entire route is single-track. Exceptions are the section at the train stations in Leiden and Woerden and a short section at Hazerswoude , which was widened to two lanes in 1985.

course

The route begins at the train station in Leiden, from there the route continues south, parallel to the Oude Rijn through a rather sparsely populated area. After the Alps, the route continues south to Bodegraven. From Bodengraven it goes east, parallel to Autobahn 12 the route to Woerden. The only towns on the route are Alphen aan den Rijn , Bodegraven and Woerden .

Train traffic

A pair of InterCity trains is currently running on the route from Leiden Centraal to Utrecht Centraal every 30 minutes.
