The Weesp – Leiden railway line , also known as Schiphollijn , is a railway line between Weesp and Leiden . The railway line is an important link and runs south through Amsterdam and therefore does not serve the Amsterdam Centraal station . The route is about 53 kilometers long.

history

The first section of the line, between Amsterdam Zuid and Schiphol, opened on December 21, 1978. On May 31, 1981, the second section between Amsterdam-Zuid and Amsterdam-RAI and the section between Schiphol and Leiden were opened . The last section from Weesp to Amsterdam RAI station was only opened on May 23, 1993. The railway line was electrified from the start. The line is double-tracked, except for the section between Weesp and the Gaasperdammerweg junction, where the trains continue towards Amsterdam CS . The maximum speed of the route is 160 km / h, but only on the section between Leiden and Hoofddorp, which is only driven by Thalys trains. The maximum speed of 140 km / h applies on most of the route. 130 km / h applies on the section in the south of Amsterdam. There are nine stations on the railway line as well as a stop that is in the planning stage.

Train traffic

In the 2013 timetable year, the route will be used by the following trains, with only the two intercity trains from The Hague to Leeuwarden or Groningen and the Sprinter from The Hague to Utrecht using the full length of the route. The trains between Schiphol and Amsterdam Centraal only cover a very short section.
