iRights.info is a German-language information platform on current developments in copyright law and data protection in the digital world . The portal has been online since March 2005.

In various categories such as "File sharing & streaming", "Music & MP3" or "Data protection & security", practical tips for dealing with works protected by copyright (music, photos, videos, texts, etc.) are given and the current legal situation is presented. In addition, the editorial team follows current developments on all aspects of legal issues online. All graphics and texts on the website are under a Creative Commons license.

Editors are Valie Djordjevic, Till Kreutzer, Philipp Otto and Matthias Spielkamp , editorial management (since August 2018) is Valie Djordjevic.

history

Project manager until the end of 2008 was Volker Grassmuck , from 2009 to 2013 Matthias Spielkamp . From 2013 to 2018 David Pachali was editor-in-chief of the web portal. Over the years, Ilja Braun , Robert A. Gehring, David Pachali, Henry Steinhau, John H. Weitzmann and Alexander Wragge have worked in the editorial team .

The development of the portal was funded from 2004 to 2006 by the Federal Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV) (formerly: Federal Ministry for Consumer Protection, Food and Agriculture, BMVEL). From 2007 to 2009 the research project “Work 2.0 - Copyright and Creative Work in the Digital World” was funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in cooperation with the Institute for Computer Science at the Humboldt University in Berlin.

Cooperation projects

  • Work 2.0 - Creative work in the digital world : Cooperation between iRights.info with the Hartware MedienKunstVerein (HMKV) Dortmund and the Institute for Computer Science at the Humboldt University in Berlin. The project shed light on the modern working relationships of creative people between technology, digitization and copyright law and consists of industry portraits, an exhibition and a conference. The final report was published at the end of 2009.
  • "Topic series on legal issues on the Internet": Cooperation between iRights.info and the EU initiative Klicksafe ( State Agency for Media North Rhine-Westphalia , LfM) to educate Internet users about legal traps on the Internet.
  • Cooperation with the Federal Agency for Civic Education on the copyright dossier.
