Departing train at the Hague Hollands Spoor station

The Den Haag HS railway station or the train station The Hague Hollands Spoor is the oldest railway station of the city of The Hague in the Netherlands . Alongside Den Haag Centraal, it is one of the city's two long-distance train stations and has six platforms.

history

The station opened in 1843 when the Oude Lijn ("old line"), the oldest railway line in the Netherlands, which ran from Amsterdam to Leiden, was extended to The Hague. The name Hollands Spoor refers to the oldest railway company in the Netherlands, the Hollandsche IJzeren Spoorweg-Maatschappij. The original station building was replaced by the current one in 1891. The architect was DAN Margadant (1849–1915), who also designed the Haarlem station building.

Planning

The station is to have a new entrance at Laakhaven , where a new forecourt is also to be created. For this purpose, the underground passage is to be extended and to connect to the new station entrance on the southeast side. A new bicycle station is to be built on the roof of the entrance with space for 2500 bicycles. New shops are to be set up in the area of the extended passage. The forecourt at the new entrance is to be designed by the municipality of The Hague. Furthermore, the station square at the main entrance is to be renewed and have high-quality tram stops. The connection to the city center for pedestrians and cyclists is also to be improved. The construction work has been underway since 2017 and is being carried out on behalf of the municipality of The Hague.
