The station Schiphol Airport (2015 Schiphol ) is a tunnel station of the Dutch railway company NS at the airport of the Dutch capital Amsterdam in Hoofddorp . It is a hub in long-distance traffic in the Netherlands and connects the airport with the major European cities of Paris , Brussels and Antwerp . For trips to Cologne , Osnabrück , Hanover and Berlin you have to change trains in Amsterdam, Hilversum or Utrecht.

As a long-distance station in the Netherlands, the station has connections with European long-distance traffic and is a stopping point for the Thalys high-speed train and for the Dutch night train “Nachtnet”. It is also the starting point of the HSL Zuid high- speed line ( Schiphol – Antwerp high-speed line ). Between 2008 and 2013 it was also served by the Fyra high-speed train.

Investments

Terminal building of the airport train station until 1995

The train station is located below the airport and is connected to the rail network through the Schipholspoortunnel, a six-kilometer-long railway tunnel that runs below the airport. The station opened on December 21, 1978. At the time of opening, it had three tracks on two platforms, but was expanded to four tracks in the 1990s.

Between 1992 and 1995, the station was structurally expanded according to plans by Benthem Crouwel Architects, the old reception building was demolished and integrated into the airport ( Schiphol Plaza ).

Another increase in capacity was completed in 2000, and since then the station has had six tracks on three platforms.
