Investments
The train station is located below the airport and is connected to the rail network through the Schipholspoortunnel, a six-kilometer-long railway tunnel that runs below the airport. The station opened on December 21, 1978. At the time of opening, it had three tracks on two platforms, but was expanded to four tracks in the 1990s.
Between 1992 and 1995, the station was structurally expanded according to plans by Benthem Crouwel Architects, the old reception building was demolished and integrated into the airport ( Schiphol Plaza ).
Another increase in capacity was completed in 2000, and since then the station has had six tracks on three platforms.
