The Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena station (spelling Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA ) is a through station of the Dutch state railway company Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) and is located in the southeast of the Dutch capital Amsterdam . Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena is one of the largest train stations in the Netherlands .
history
The first station was opened in 1971 under the name “Station Bijlmer” and was a small stop on the Amsterdam – Arnhem railway line, which was still at street level . In March 1976 the railway line was moved to an elevated position, which necessitated a new construction of the station. After renovation, the station was reopened in October 1977 under the name Amsterdam Bijlmer . At that time, the station had 4 local and long-distance tracks and 2 underground tracks. The last renovation of the station began in 2000. The official opening of today's train station took place on November 17, 2007 and has since been called Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena . In practice, today's train station was put into operation on December 10, 2006. In 2014, the station had 6 local and long-distance tracks and 2 underground tracks.

The station is located about 9 km southeast of Amsterdam Central Station, in the immediate vicinity of the eponymous Johan-Cruyff-Arena (formerly Amsterdam Arena ) in the residential district of Bijlmermeer (colloquially also: Bijlmer) in the Amsterdam district of Zuidoost .

The station is a through station with eight tracks on five platforms. Local and long-distance trains stop at tracks 1-3 and 6-8, while the M50 and M54 metro lines stop at tracks 4 and 5 in the middle of the station. The cost of renovating the station was around EUR 150 million .
