history

The first station was opened in 1971 under the name “Station Bijlmer” and was a small stop on the Amsterdam – Arnhem railway line, which was still at street level . In March 1976 the railway line was moved to an elevated position, which necessitated a new construction of the station. After renovation, the station was reopened in October 1977 under the name Amsterdam Bijlmer . At that time, the station had 4 local and long-distance tracks and 2 underground tracks. The last renovation of the station began in 2000. The official opening of today's train station took place on November 17, 2007 and has since been called Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena . In practice, today's train station was put into operation on December 10, 2006. In 2014, the station had 6 local and long-distance tracks and 2 underground tracks.
