The Schiedam Centrum station is an important Dutch station on the Amsterdam – Rotterdam and Schiedam – Hoek van Holland lines .
history
The station was opened on June 3, 1847 as a railway station and on November 4, 2002 as an underground station .
At that time it was the only train station in Schiedam . In 1889 the first station building was demolished and replaced by a design by the architect DAN Margadant. In 1891 the railway line to Maassluis was opened, and in 1893 it was extended to Hoek van Holland. This line is therefore known under the name 'Hoekse Lijn'.
In 1963, the head of the construction department of the Dutch Railways , Koenraad van der Gaast , opened a new station. The roof is similar to that of Tilburg train station . On May 25, 1967 the station was renamed Schiedam-Rotterdam West . At that time, international trains to and from Hoek van Holland that did not stop in Rotterdam Centraal stopped there. Since May 24, 1998 the station has been called Schiedam Centrum because no international trains stop.
In 2000 the station building was renewed and adapted.
