The Amsterdam Sloterdijk railway station is a Turmbahnhof the Dutch railway company NS in the west of the Dutch capital Amsterdam . It is an important hub in local and long-distance traffic. It is one of the largest train stations in the Netherlands and one of the busiest in Amsterdam.
history
The first station of the same name was opened in 1956 further south of the current station to open up the former village of Sloterdijk and the western districts . There was only a connection to Haarlem . When today's train station opened in 1983, there was initially only one connection to Zaandam . The station was used on the upper level and was named Sloterdijk-Noord . The trains to Haarlem stopped at the old station, which was called Sloterdijk-Zuid . In 1985 the lower level was opened, the old station was closed and the station was given its current name. In 1986 the station was completely finished and could be used on all levels, at the same time the new Amsterdam Centraal – Schiphol relief line opened . In 1997, the extension of the M50 metro line was opened in Isolatorweg station, which runs parallel to the relief line from the station.
location
The station is about four kilometers northwest of Amsterdam Central Station. Before it was only used by residents, today it is more of a commuter station, as numerous large office buildings have been built in the area.

The station is a tower station, with the lower level being used by the trains on the Amsterdam – Rotterdam and Nieuwediep – Amsterdam lines . The lower part has six tracks. In the upper area the trains of the railway line from Amsterdam Centraal to Schiphol and the metro line 50 stop. The upper part houses two tracks for the train traffic and two for the metro. In addition, in December 2008 , two more tracks were opened on the “ Hemboog ” - an overpass that has been in sight of the station since 2003.
