Planning
The station area is to be rebuilt and renewed by 2023. The clients, the municipality of Amsterdam, the Nederlandse Spoorwegen , ProRail and the Vervoerregio Amsterdam, are planning the refurbishment in order to counteract the traffic volume of pedestrians, cyclists, cars, buses, trams and trains. The aim is to improve the linking of the various modes of transport. In the track area, the first platform is to be made more accessible by building a new bustard. Furthermore, the furniture and the passenger information displays are to be renewed. In the station building, the hall and some shops are to be renovated and an additional staircase to the bicycle station is to be created. The underground bike station on the east side is to be enlarged, while more bike racks are to be placed on the west side of the station. In the vicinity of the station, the streets are to be merged, the tram lane to be relocated and underground garages to be built so that the station forecourt will offer more space. There the paths for pedestrians and cyclists are to be improved. In addition, the construction of the new bus station and the tram stop was completed in 2018 .
