history

inside view

The first station was opened on September 20, 1839 with the Amsterdam – Rotterdam line , one of the first in the Netherlands. However, this was outside the city and was made entirely of wood. In 1842 the first station was built at its current location. The station was given its current appearance between 1905 and 1908 by the Dutch architect Dirk Margadant. It is the only Art Nouveau station in the Netherlands . A visual redesign of the station area is planned for the next few years.
