Connexxion is a Dutch transport company , which as a provider of transport services in local public transport occurs. In addition, Connexxion is also active in taxi and coach traffic and operates several ambulances .
Connexxion was created in May 1999 through the merger of various municipal and state transport companies. On June 30, 2007, 66 percent of the shares in Connexxion were sold to the French company Transdev , the remaining shares remained under Dutch management for five years. The annual turnover of Connexxion is 1.1 billion euros . The company has around 13,500 employees.
Traffic area
Connexxion is one of the few major transport companies in the Netherlands . The company operates regular bus services in the following regions:
- Flevoland , formerly NV Verenigde Autobus Diensten (VAD) / Midnet
- Utrecht , formerly Centraal Nederland (CN)
- Noord-Holland including the island of Texel , formerly Noord-Zuid-Hollandsche Vervoer Maatschappij (NZH)
- Zeeland , formerly NV Streekvervoer Zuid-West-Nederland (ZWN)
- Voorne putti
In addition, Connexxion operates the Valleilijn Amersfoort - Ede - Wageningen railway line , on which the PROTOS regional train , designed and built by FTD Fahrzeugtechnik Dessau , is used.
The company also operates the fully automated People Mover ParkShuttle between the Rotterdam Kralingse Zoom metro station and the Rivium industrial park in Capelle aan den IJssel . However, this means of transport has been out of service for a long time due to various problems.
From 1998 the company operated the Fast Flying Ferry between Amsterdam and IJmuiden, which was discontinued at the end of 2013.
Holdings
Connexxion is 100% owner of the transport company Hermes , which operates bus services in the Eindhoven and Helmond regions under the brand name “Bravo”.
Since January 2007 the municipal transport companies GVU from Utrecht and Novio from Arnhem and Nijmegen (“breng”) have belonged entirely to Connexxion.
The company owned a third of the shares in the transport company Syntus. These were sold in September 2007 to the NS and the French company Keolis , which were already co-owners of Syntus. Their name has been Keolis Nederland since 2017 .
