New Noviobus for Nijmegen under the product name Breng

Novio is a former transport company in the city of Nijmegen in the Dutch province of Gelderland . The name was derived from Noviomagus , the once Roman name of the city. The institution operated public buses under the name “ Breng ” on behalf of the local Plusregio Stadsregio Arnhem-Nijmegen (formerly Knooppunt Arnhem -Nijmegen ) and was a subsidiary of Connexxion .

timeline

In 1911 a tram was opened in Nijmegen under the name Gemeente Tram Nijmegen (GTN). Also overhead line bus lines were established and the company Nijmegen trolleybus founded. Legally, the tram company existed until 1955 and the trolleybus company until March 1969, although the trolleybuses had been replaced by buses in 1952 - mainly with omnibus models from the vehicle manufacturer DAF . In cooperation with the transport company Hermes (until 1995 Zuidooster) bus traffic in and around Nijmegen was provided. Novio operated most of the city routes, Hermes the intercity buses. Connexxion also operated in the direction of Arnhem. With the NIAG two lines of Nijmegen direction were Kranenburg and Kleve operated. Up until May 28, 2005, night buses also ran from Novio to Nijmegen on Saturdays. On January 1, 2007 Novio would be bought by Connexxion and from that date a subsidiary of Connexxion alongside Hermes.

From December 13, 2009, following a public tender, all traffic in the Plusregio Stadsregio Arnhem-Nijmegen was provided by Novio. The transport sector included urban traffic in Arnhem and Nijmegen and overland traffic around these cities. 69 new Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses with natural gas drive (CNG) were purchased for Nijmegen . In addition, the company took over the Arnhem trolleybus network and procured some new vehicles. More recent Connexxion buses have been retrofitted for overland transport. Night buses would be reintroduced in Nijmegen and the night network in Arnhem was taken over. Since then, Novio has operated in the region under the product name Breng and all buses have the same look; Buses from Arnhem had blue roofs, while buses from Nijmegen had pink roofs. The cooperation with NIAG would continue.

Novio had received the concession for three years. After that, a license was put out to tender for a longer term. Novio had the guarantee that the new natural gas and trolley buses would be taken over by any new transport company. From December 9, 2012, Hermes will be operating in the region again and has taken over the operation of Breng from Novio.
