history

Hermes was created on January 1, 1995 as a merger of the Zuidooster transport company from Gennep and Verenigd Streekvervoer Limburg (VSL) from Heerlen . The new headquarters were in Weert . Hermes operated the bus service in the southeast of the country; in the south of Gelderland , in the north-east of Noord-Brabant , in the De Peel region and also the city bus services in Eindhoven in the area of the Plusregio Samenwerkingsverband Regio Eindhoven (SRE) and the entire province of Limburg (except for the Maastricht city traffic ). Large parts of its traffic area have been lost through public tenders. In the summer of 1995 Hermes lost the regional bus service in the Limburg region “Heuvelland” (around Maastricht) to Vancom through the first public tender. Until August 25, 2002, Hermes provided bus services in the east of the province of Noord-Brabant. This was taken over by BBA (since 2001 part of Connex, now Veolia Transport) and since January 2007 by Arriva. Hermes tried to win the concession in both tenders. In the south of Gelderland, u. a. in the region around Tiel , Hermes operated the bus service until January 5, 2003. Arriva has been operating there ever since . Until December 2006, Hermes operated city and regional bus services in most of the Limburg province . This has been operated by Veolia Transport since December 2006 .

On January 28, 2008, the administration of Plusregio Samenwerkingsverband Regio Eindhoven announced that Hermes had won the public tender to operate bus services for the region. As a result, Hermes kept traffic around Eindhoven and Helmond and, from December 14, 2008, expanded into the Dutch region of Kempen , where BBA operated. New buses were bought for the new concession and the entire fleet was renewed. VDL Berkhof Ambassador buses were purchased for regional bus services, and MAN Lion's City buses for city bus services in Eindhoven . The appearance of the buses would be adjusted. Most of the new Hermes buses were painted gray with blue and yellow. Before that, the regional buses were white with yellow and blue stripes, while the city buses in Eindhoven were painted in cream / red.

Until December 13, 2009, the city and regional bus services in Nijmegen were provided in collaboration with Novio and Connexxion . From December 13th, 2009 Novio provided traffic in the region around Nijmegen and Arnhem under the product name "Breng" after a public tender . From December 9, 2012, Hermes took over traffic again, also under the product name "Breng". Since that date there has also been a railway line from Arnhem to Doetinchem near Breng.

In 1995 Hermes was part of the VSN-Groep, a holding that housed all bus companies in the Netherlands. From 1999 Hermes was housed with the new transport company Connexxion . The province of Limburg and some municipalities from Limburg had a minority share. In 2002 the company had 1,350 employees, 454 buses and a sales volume of 101.7 million euros .

Hermes has been a 100% subsidiary of Connexxion since 2007. All shares from Limburg were sold to Connexxion as Hermes no longer operated in Limburg. The head office was moved to Eindhoven.

Since the timetable change on December 11, 2016, Hermes has been using 43 new electric articulated buses from VDL (type Citea SLFA-181 Electric) in the city of Eindhoven under the brand name “Bravo” (for Bra bant v ervoert o ns) . All diesel buses here are to be replaced by further electric buses by 2024.
