The Citea is a city bus from the Dutch bus manufacturer VDL Bus & Coach . A demonstration bus was presented at the 'UITP Mobility and City Transport Exhibition 2007' in Helsinki. The Citea is sold in three different versions, a low-entry bus (CLE, Citea Low Entry), a lightweight low-entry bus (LLE, Light Low Entry) and a low-floor bus with a tower motor (CLF, Citea Low Floor). A variant as a double-decker bus (DLF, Double deck Low Floor) exists as a prototype and has been in testing at the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) since August 2015 . A facelift took place in 2010.
history
The first 10 Citeas were ordered by Connexxion in 2008 . On November 10, 2008, a large order for 518 VDL Citeas was announced by the RTA from Dubai, the first Citeas were delivered to Dubai on June 29, 2009. In June / July a Citea CLF 120 was handed over to the first customer in Germany, HEAG mobiBus from Darmstadt , another model has been represented by a private company in Bayreuth / Upper Franconia since 2011 and runs on the city network.
On April 11, 2011, VDL announced that GVB Amsterdam had ordered 70 Citeas.
In January 2013, VDL received an order for 60 Citeas LLE from Rheinbahn . The two test vehicles of the lightweight model achieved higher fuel savings in a two-year test than a hybrid vehicle, which was also tested by the Rheinbahn during the same period.
In 2014, the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) signed a supply contract with VDL for up to 236 VDL Citeas, which should modernize the fleet of the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe by 2019. The first 40 vehicles were delivered in 2015, and a further 70 vehicles were delivered by 2016. Problems with unpleasant odor emissions could only be resolved after a few months. In October 2016, the BVG announced that it would not withdraw all 236 vehicles from the contract. It remains with the 110 vehicles delivered so far. A reason why not all vehicles are called from the delivery contract has not yet been officially given.
Hybrid
On December 1, 2010 two hybrid Citeas of the type CLF120 Hybrid were presented by Connexxion in Enschede. The hybrid technology comes from Vossloh-Kiepe. The bus was designed with the help of TU Darmstadt . In March 2011, 3 Citea SLF120 Hybrids were therefore also delivered to HEAG mobibus.
Electric buses
The Citea SLF Electric is a 12 meter long, fully electric low-floor bus . The buyer can choose from various electric drives and battery packs.
The Citea SLFA 181 Electric is an 18.1 meter long, fully electric articulated bus . This was first presented to the public in May 2015 as part of the UITP World Congress in Milan. In order to be able to recharge the 1380 kg lithium-ion battery with an energy content of 122.6 kWh during operation, the Citea SLFA Electric has a pantograph quick charging system. The pantograph is installed on the roof of the front of the car above the second axle. At the terminus, you can recharge with up to 250 kW charging power. The bus has 43 seats and 82 standing places. The Citea SLFA Electric has been in use since 2016 on the E-Bus route 133 of the Cologne transport company (9 vehicles).
Hermes in Eindhoven has been using a total of 43 Citea SLFA-181 Electric articulated buses under the brand name “Bravo” since December 2016; this makes it one of the largest battery bus fleets in Europe.
Bus of the Year
Due to its economy and environmental friendliness, the Citea was named Bus of the Year 2011 at the IAA in Hanover on September 23, 2010 .
