Brabantsche Buurtspoorwegen en Autodiensten (BBA) is a former operator of city and intercity buses in the province of Noord-Brabant in the Netherlands . The company belonged to Veolia Transport .

history

In the 1880s, suburban trams and bus routes were established by various transport companies in the province of Noord-Brabant. The transport companies Stoomtramweg-Maatschappij Antwerpen - Bergen op Zoom - Tholen , Zuid-Nederlandsche Stoomtramweg-Maatschappij , Zuider Stoomtramweg-Maatschappij , Hollandsche Buurtspoorwegen , Tramweg-Maatschappij "De Meijerij" and Stoomtramweg 's-Hertogenbosch - Helmond - Veghel - Oss merged in 1934 to a new company, Brabantse Buurtspoorwegen en Autodiensten, BBA for short. At that time, steam and diesel- powered tram lines - each in the width of the Cape gauge - were included. Tram traffic was discontinued in 1939 and rail freight traffic was replaced by trucks . During the Second World War , the BBA had the official license for almost all bus routes in the province, but suffered extensive material destruction. After the war, the reconstruction was done.

In 1978, BBA reached an agreement with the Zuidooster company, which maintained both lines in the north-east and in the center of Noord-Brabant. The Eindhoven - Veghel - Uden - Oss bus line became the border of the traffic areas, the line itself went to BBA. Both companies gave up their lines in the other's territory. Since then, BBA has operated in the west and center of the province (west of the Eindhoven-Oss line). BBA later joined the bush holding VSN-Groep. As of January 1, 1987, the lines and buses of the transport company EMA were taken over, which ceased to exist as a transport company. The area of the BBA expanded to include the De Kempen region south of the Eindhoven region. Zuidooster provided city transport in Eindhoven and overland transport in the north of the region. In 1998 BBA left the holding company. The shares went to the province of Noord-Brabant, the new company Connexxion (a merger of several companies in the VSN-Groep) and some municipalities in Noord-Brabant. In 2001 all shares were sold to the French Connex (part of Vivendi Environnement). From then on, BBA was used as a trade name because Connex tried to expand outside of Noord-Brabant with the name BBA. Concessions in Utrecht and the Veluwe in Gelderland went to BBA. As of August 25, 2002, the Northeast Brabant concession from Hermes (the successor to Zuidooster) went to BBA. As a result, BBA from now on operated almost entirely in Noord-Brabant, only the Eindhoven city traffic and the overland traffic in the De Peel region were still with Hermes. Connex won the concession for a ferry service between Vlissingen and Breskens and used the name BBA Fast Ferries for this.

In 2006 Vivendi Environnement changed its name to Veolia Environnement. It was decided to rename the subsidiary Connex in Veolia Transport. The Dutch division was renamed Veolia Transport Nederland. Veolia registered with this name for new concessions. The BBA brand would no longer be used for the new concession. The name stayed in the old areas. From January 1st 2007 Veolia Transport Nederland won the concession for the west and the center of Noord-Brabant. In the east, the concession went to Arriva. The name BBA disappeared for the most part. In 2007 the name BBA Fast Ferries was also changed to Veolia Fast Ferries. On September 8, 2007 the name BBA in the Veluwe was changed to Veolia Transport. Only in the Utrecht concessions and the Plusregio Samenwerkingsverband Regio Eindhoven in De Kempen did the name BBA remain, as these concessions only had a short term. On December 14, 2008, the name BBA disappeared completely when these concessions were given to other transport companies.

Since 2001, the BBA, mainly focused on buses of the type Mercedes-Benz Citaro for the regional transport.
