history

The village of Uden emerged in the Middle Ages from five small villages, two of which existed in the early Middle Ages . Traces of settlement by the Franks were found. In 1339 Uden got its own jurisdiction. Even after the Peace of Westphalia in 1648, Uden belonged to the Land of Ravenstein , i.e. not yet to the Protestant Republic of the Netherlands . Therefore, clergy from the rest of North Brabant avoided here and monasteries were founded. So in 1638 came the Kreuzherren and in 1712 the Birgitten .

It was not until 1816 that Uden came to the Netherlands. During the First World War , Uden was a refuge for war refugees from Belgium .

The farming village was designated by the government in The Hague in 1951 to grow into a factory town. Much of the village character, however, has been preserved.
