The Jagdgeschwader 7 (JG 7) was an association of the German Air Force during World War II . It was also nicknamed "Nowotny" after the Austrian fighter pilot and air force officer, Walter Nowotny .
history
The staff of JG 7 was set up on August 25, 1944 in Königsberg, East Prussia, from the staff of Kampfgeschwader 1 .
Group I of JG 7 was created on August 25, 1944 in Burg near Magdeburg by renaming II./KG 1. and on November 27, 1944 became the II. Group of JG 7; A new I. Group in Königsberg was re-established by renaming the II. Group of Jagdgeschwader 3 with a group staff and three squadrons, but did not have its own aircraft until the end of the year.
The II. Group of JG 7 was set up on August 25, 1944 by renaming the III./KG 1 and separated from the squadron as the IV. Group of Jagdgeschwader 301 on November 24th . The I./JG 7 was renamed the II./JG 7 three days later.
The III. Group of JG 7 was formed on November 19, 1944 in Lechfeld from the Nowotny Test Command . On May 3, 1945, Jagdverband 44 was renamed Group IV of Jagdgeschwader 7 and placed under the squadron.
