The Jagdgeschwader 6 "Horst Wessel" (JG 6) was an association of the Luftwaffe during the Second World War . It was created in July 1944 by renaming the Destroyer Wing 26 . It was named after Horst Wessel , a member of the SA who was killed in 1930 .

From December 16, 1944, JG 6 took part in the Ardennes offensive .

On January 1, 1945, the I. Group of JG 6 was in Delmenhorst . On January 1, 1945, the group took part in the Bodenplatte company , an air offensive by the German Air Force on allied front airfields in northern France, Holland and Belgium . The group's destination was Eindhoven Airport in Holland, where severe damage was caused. Shortly after this mission, the group moved to the Eastern Front in Sorau and on February 7, 1945 to Freiwaldau . The group had to move to Cottbus on February 14th and to Welzow on February 19th .

Group II of JG 6 was in Quakenbrück at the beginning of 1945 . On January 1, 1945, the group took a stake in the Bodenplatte company; the group's goal was the Volkel front airfield in Holland, where, however, only minor damage was caused. After this mission, the group moved to the Eastern Front in Sorau and on February 10, 1945, to Welzow.

The III. Group of JG 6 was in Bissel near Oldenburg at the beginning of 1945 . On January 1, 1945, the group took a stake in the Bodenplatte company; the group's goal was the Volkel airfield in Holland, where only minor damage was caused. Shortly after this mission, the group moved to the Eastern Front to Groß-Stein near Oppeln , from there on January 21 to Ohlau , a few days later to Sorau and on February 10, 1945 to Welzow south of Cottbus .

At the beginning of 1945 the staff of JG 6 was in Delmenhorst.
