The Luftlandegeschwader 2 was an association of the Luftwaffe in World War II . It was the only squadron of the Air Force that the gliders Gotha Go 242 was equipped.

Lineup

The staff and the I. Group were formed in April 1942 at the Parchim Air Base ( Lage ). They received the Heinkel He 111 as a tow plane for the cargo glider Gotha Go 242. Group II was formed on June 18, 1942 in Posen ( Lage ) and had the Heinkel He 111 in its ranks as a tow plane . The wing recognition was F7.

history

In September 1942, the 2nd group, except for the 5th season , was disbanded. The 5th season of LLG 2 was retained as an independent season with the designation 5./LLG 2. In October 1942 she was transferred to Kharkov in the south of the Eastern Front. She then moved to Olsufjewo Air Base ( Lage ) in November 1942 , where she stayed until December 1942 and between May and August 1943. In October 1943 the 5./LLG 2 was converted into the 3rd squadron of tow group 3.

Gotha Go 242 in the Soviet Union

Group I came to Bagerowo ( Lage ) in the south of the Soviet Union in January 1943 and carried out supply flights to the enclosed German troops in the Stalingrad pocket .

Then the I. Group, together with the squadron staff, moved in April 1943 to the air base in Nancy ( Lage ) in occupied France . There the squadron staff was disbanded in June 1943. I./LLG 2 remained as an independent group stationed at various airfields in France until September 1944, before it was also disbanded. The remaining former members of the squadron were deployed on the ground in the final battles of the war.
