The Jagdgeschwader 4 ( JG 4 ) was an association of the German Air Force in World War II .
history
Positioning and restructuring
The staff of JG 4 was set up on June 15, 1942 in Ansbach by renaming the staff of the Jagdgeschwader zbV. It was dissolved at the end of the war in the North Frisian town of Leck .
On August 7, 1942, the 1st squadron of Jagdgeschwader 77 , which defended the Romanian oil region Ploesti , was renamed the 1st squadron of JG 4 and was directly subordinate to the commanding general of the German Air Force in Romania. The 2nd squadron was created December 12, 1942. The 1st group was supplemented on January 10, 1943 by a 3rd squadron, a group staff and a 4th squadron with Romanian pilots, who left the squadron at the end of the year. In June 1944 a new 4th squadron was formed, in September the 2./JG 4 and the 8th squadron of Jagdgeschwader 53 changed their names. Group I was disbanded on March 19, 1945 in Berlin-Schönefeld .
The II. Group of JG 4 was formed on July 12, 1944 by renaming the I. Group of Destroyer Squadron 1 as the so-called "Sturmgruppe" and initially consisted of squadrons 5 to 7, but on July 21, 1944 it was expanded to 8. Season added. It dissolved in Leak on May 8th.
The III. Group of JG 4 was created on July 12, 1944 by renaming III./ZG 1 and was divided into four squadrons. Like Group II, it disbanded in Leck on May 8th.
The IV. Group of JG 4 was established on October 20, 1944 by renaming the II. Group of Jagdgeschwader 5 . It was dissolved in Mark Zwuschen near Wittenberg in April 1945 .
