history

The existence of a place in the area of today's city has been documented since 1529; In 1585 the name Eşteu is documented. The current city name, which became established in the 18th century, comes from Turkish and means something like "postal service". At the end of the 17th century, the place belonged to the Wallachian prince Constantin Brâncoveanu . For a long time only a small town, Mizil developed into a local trading center from the 18th century due to its location on a trade route in the middle between the more important cities of Ploieşti and Buzău . In 1830 Mizil was declared a city. After the end of the Second World War until the administrative reform in 1968, it was the seat of a Rajons , a small administrative unit. The most important branches of the economy are the textile and furniture industry, agriculture, viticulture and trade.
