Geographical location
Vălenii de Munte is located in the outer Carpathian Mountains , at the transition from the Eastern to the Southern Carpathians in a valley basin named after the city (Depresiunea Vălenii de Munte) on the Teleajen River . The district capital Ploieşti is located about 30 km south of Vălenii de Munte.
history
Vălenii de Munte was first mentioned in 1431. In 1433 the place is described as lying on a trade route between the Principality of Wallachia and Transylvania . From 1645 to 1781 Vălenii de Munte was the administrative seat of the Săcuieni district, which was later divided between the Prahova and Buzău districts. In 1684 the place was first mentioned as a city. One school has been occupied since 1797. Due to its somewhat remote location, the city lost some of its importance in the further course. In the years after the 1989 revolution , two industrial estates were created in which companies for metal and wood processing as well as textile and canning production have settled. Tourism also plays an important role; the city is a recreational area for many residents of Bucharest and Ploieşti.
